Shohei Ohtani Interpreter Fired After Allegedly Stealing Millions for Illegal Gambling

Shohei Ohtani Interpreter Fired After Allegedly Stealing Millions for Illegal Gambling

The LA Dodgers have fired Ippei Mizuhara, the interpreter of Japanese baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani after the ballplayer’s representatives accused him of stealing millions used for illegal gambling.

According to the LA Times, Shohei Ohtani’s camp accused the interpreter of engaging in a ‘massive theft’ of Ohtani’s funds to place bets through an allegedly illegal bookmaker under federal investigation.

Ohtani’s lawyers made the claim after Ohtani’s name surfaced in an investigation of Orange County resident Mathew Bowyer. After looking into the actions of Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, the Hollywood law firm discovered that the baseball star had been the victim of a massive theft and turned the matter over to the authorities.

Ippei Mizuhara served as Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter since his days with the LA Angels, where he won the ‘Best Interpreter Award’ during the 2021 off-season. His annual salary as an interpreter was reportedly between $300,000 and $500,000. The Dodgers fired Mizuhara, who was still interpreting for Ohtani, on Wednesday in Seoul, South Korea.
