Polite Robber Arrested After Calling Konbini to Apologize

47-year-old Nobuyuki Nagata was arrested for threatening and attempting to steal money from a clerk at a 7-Eleven store in Komono-cho, Mie Prefecture. After failing the robbery, he ran away and called the store, saying, “I’m sorry about earlier.”

The perpetrator attempted to rob the 7-Eleven at around 7:40 a.m. on April 15, where a 55-year-old female clerk was sprayed with alcohol disinfectant. He also threatened to kill the woman.

Nagata eventually ran away without taking anything, but a few minutes later, he called the store to apologize, and a police officer called back and questioned his whereabouts, leading to his arrest.

When questioned by the police, Nagata partially denied the charges, saying, “There is no doubt that I threatened her, but I didn’t really want money.”
